Welcome to Poplar Class!
I hope you are looking forward to learning lots of new things during your time in Year 3! Here are some topics that we will be looking at during this half term:
English – Author Focus – Roald Dahl
The children will be exploring the work of Roald Dahl in depth. They will be reading and discussing a selection of stories written by this author and talking about the themes explored in the stories. They will also be making comparisons between the books, their plots and the characters.
Science – Plants
The children will be carrying out a number of investigations to explore the factors that affect the growth of plants. They will learn about the main functions of the different parts of a plant and study the life cycle of a flowering plant.
Topic – The Romans
In this unit, the children will begin to understand where the Roman Empire began by developing a chronologically secure understanding of British History. They will learn about Roman soldiers such as Julius Caesar and will explore the impact that Roman technology, culture and beliefs have had upon society today.
Maths - Fractions and Time
Within our fractions unit, the children will learn to compare, order and find equivalent fractions before subtracting and adding fractions.
Throughout our unit on time, the children will learn to tell time to the nearest minute. From this, the children will be able to find and compare the duration of events.
